Config, Script Rule & Staff Updates

Date November 4, 2013

Staff Update

We’re pleased to announce that Norway Lazybear has successfully completed his admin trial and has been promoted to a full member of Anti-Cheat staff. He’s been exceptionally active and helpful during his trial period and we’re glad to have him on board!

Script Rule Update

Rule 6.3 Scripts been updated with revised penalties for using illegal scripts. Scripts violating the rule are no longer implicitly classified as cheating, but will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and penalized accordingly. The updated section of the rule reads as follows:

Scripts that allow a player to perform an action in-game that he would not be able to execute without the script, or scripts that purposefully disrupt the player hitbox are banned. Scripts that freeze or glitch the player model (e.g. in mid-air to be less predictable) to make it harder to hit are also banned.

Usage of banned scripts will be penalized on a case-by-case basis, depending on the intent of the script, the impact on the matches the script. Possible penalties may include warnings, default losses for one or more match rounds and league bans for repeated offenses.

ETF2L config update

The base ETF2L config has been updated with the following changes:

tv_relayvoice 0
host_framerate 0
mp_friendlyfire 0
sv_allowupload 0
sv_mincmdrate 66
sv_minrate 20000
sv_minupdaterate 66

The addition of these cvars brings the ETF2L config in line with other league configs and TFTrue-enforced settings.

In addition to the above, a new optional config file has been added – etf2l_custom.cfg. This config is executed automatically by all ETF2L configs and contains settings recommended by ETF2L staff. The settings contained in this file can be tweaked to the server admin’s preference or removed altogether. At this time, the file contains SourceTV settings that we have found to improve the viewing experience without any notable downside.

Please note that editing or overriding settings found in configs other than etf2l_custom.cfg is not allowed and may result in penalties.

Ban Overturned

Date October 29, 2013

NiCOOOO Ban Overturned

Some time ago we banned France NiCO god's hand for 6 months for Script Abuse. France NiCO god's hand contested the ban and worked with us to prove his innocence, going out of the way to provide additional evidence. After thorough review, we have concluded that France NiCO god's hand was not using a banned script after all. This means that NiCO is unbanned with immediate effect and is considered a legitimate player, and his team’s match results will be restored.

The anti-cheat team would like to say the following:

First of all, we want to apologize to NiCO and his team for the trouble we have caused them. It is inexcusable that a totally innocent player can be banned for something they did not do. They lost time and their season has been damaged by our mistake and we apologize for that.

We banned NiCO because we believed what he did was simply not possible without the use of a script. Following the ban, NiCO and his team remained calm and courteous, and wanted to prove NiCO’s innocence. We immediately agreed because it is easy to prove whether NiCO was using a script or not. NiCO was patient and worked directly with the AC team – putting in hours of work to prove his innocence.

After reviewing the evidence NiCO provided, we concluded that we had made a mistake and that NiCO is completely innocent. We have learned from this mistake, and will strive to not make this mistake again.

We’d like to make it clear that this ban was appealed only because of the specifics of the script rule (if it is possible to prove that something is achievable without a script) and the cooperative attitude of the banned player. Most bans issued by our staff (e.g. for using cheats) are not subject to appeal.
