The open playoffs this season have been a curiosity, with no real super-strong teams who have utterly dominated (and then immediately gained promotion to high the season after). This has left us with two teams, Belastend and L3RDZ, both very international in nature. It’s worth pointing out that L3RDZ did get a 5-1 victory over their opponents, and haven’t lost a single series (they do have one 3-3 tie). But are they even favourites? Who knows? Who will win? Who will fold? It’s another unexpected season of open.

Players from all across Scandinavia are gathering in Jönköping, Sweden for DreamHack Winter 2016: Battle for the North.

Four teams have been invited to compete at DreamHack, with each of them hailing from the Nordic countries. The teams are: Team Sweden, Team Norway, Team Denmark & Team Finland.

Last season’s open champions, 6kdrv. are now in the mid Grand Final. They had a very strong start to the season, but seemed to peter-out towards the end of the season, only picking up two maps over their last three matches of the main season. However, they appear to have turned that poor form around after battling through their semi-final over midnight 6s, a team which beat them 6-0 earlier on.

This fixture is especially spicy due to these two teams having drawn during the main season, although it is worth noting that Coffin Clan gained more points during said season, including swiping midnight 6s aside 3-0, 5-1, a wholly different story from the struggles 6kdrv. had facing the same opponent. Obviously, you cannot place too much trust on one set of results, but goonsquad most certainly seem like a stronger team.

Will 6kdrv. be another team to prove me totally wrong? Why are seemingly half the players in mid from the CIS region? These questions and more may be answered by this game.

Hildreth and his team of long-suffering highlander mains are once again on the cusp of prem, after a whole two years of playing on and off in high. Joining them this time round is the highly talented Mon, who you may remember in prem last season, under the banner of B@GSER FIVE . Some less positive news for Hildreth is that his team has already lost to Lemmings, but that was all the way back in September and a lot can change in that time.

Lemmings, on the other hand, have had a perfect season, not dropping a single point. This team looks destined for prem, with the immensely intelligent medic Honey Badger, as well as arguably the best scout in high, ZYKAZ.

Lemmings may be the favourites, but high has produced unexpected results in the Grand Finals before, and it may well again this time round. Whoever wins this is going to have an invite directly to prem, so expect high-octane fragging from both teams.
