Not talking i5 or i7 here
i have an asus p5ql pro motherboard does anyone know what i can get which will out perform what i currently have (e7200 stock 2.53 @3.6ghz) but its cache is tiny and the game often lags even with an fps config.
I am not too fussed about getting a quad core just yet. if that isnt going to give better performance in tf2 than a dual core for the same price. as i dont do any rendering or video editing i dont think the quad makes that much difference in tf2. plz correct if wrong.
rest of system is decent enough:
4gb ddr2 1066mhz
4850
600w psu

Large CPU-caches are tied to branch-prediction in the mnemonics. Games have VERY little use for “large caches”, whilst compilers, SQL-servers and other heavy static-branching applications do. If you use google, you will notice there are quite a few articles regarding cache size and gaming — and them all telling you there will be no gain from it.

tl;dr : Cache size dosen’t make a difference in games. :)
and hes right, e7200 with a OC like that is fine with TF2. If you’re getting lag i’d say its your TF2 config or internet connection. Make sure you have multicore rendering and TF2 multicore config enabled.
I don’t think there’s much that will outperform your current CPU by a significant enough margin to warrant spending money on it.
get an E8500, OC it to 4.5ghz, profit
aww well thats a shame coz this cpu sucks. o well will wait till like next year and just get a new pc
if ur getting lag with 3.6ghz 45nm dual core, u do have srs cfg/os issues :D

Wow…
what?
You need to get off that alcohol, I wasen’t insulting you, I was putting in layman’s terms what you meant by going off on a massively complicated explanation of something of almost NO relevance.
i bet that freeze/lag depends to bad OC…i had the same prob, try to run it stock with an fps config to sort this out.

sure, if u OC it having 100C temps, then it will rather make ur game lag than die in front of u
