Season 5: 6x SteelSeries Siberia RED for Division 1 winner

Date May 8, 2009

We are happy to announce the partnership between ETF2L and SteelSeries will continue in Season 5.

SteelSeries, the leading manufacturer of gaming peripherals and accessiores, will provide 6x Siberia Full-Size Headsets (Special Edition “RED”) for the upcoming Division 1 winner.

But who will be the best out of 250 teams from over 25 different countries and take these excellent headsets home? Some of the usual candidates like European Team Dignitas, European Trademark Gamers, European Team YoYoTech or Finland Crack Clan? Or will some underdog like Netherlands FakkelBrigade, Germany clan00 or European Level Up win Season 5?

The answer will be given in over 1000 matches which will be played in the next two months. We are looking forward to close and thrilling fights and wish all teams good luck and much fun!

Season 5 divisions – map pick phase – Start scheduling – ban

Date April 28, 2009

Divisions

We have now finalized the divisions for season 5. We have taken into account all division change requests, and applied them where possible. Without further ado, follow the following link to see your division and your opponents for this season:

>>>[Season 5 Tables]<<<

Map picks open

All teams can now start picking the maps they want to play for this season. This means you can pick 1 map to play against each opponent. There are limitations however: You can only pick a map from the primary map pool 3 times. A map from the secondary map pool can only be chosen 1 time. You can change your map picks as much as you want while the map picks are open, but once they close, the map picks are final, and cannot be changed.

Details

  • Map picks open: Now
  • Map picks close: Sunday 3 May, 23:59 CEST
  • Map picks page (only for team leaders/deputys): [Link]
  • Don’t forget to submit your map picks in time, or you will be assigned default maps.

Note: Division 1 teams should not pick any maps, division 2 teams should pick only maps from the primary map pool as a result from their respective votes for this. Division 1 maps will be published at the end of the map pick phase.

Start scheduling

All fixtures are now known. Week 1 starts coming monday. Please start arranging your first matches. All fixtures can be found on the fixtures page: [Link]

The most common method of contacting your enemy is through IRC, but steam friends works great aswell. There are usually some alternative contact methods entered on your opponent’s team page. Also, on the matchpage, you can make a comment, and as team leader or deputy, you can tick the box marked ‘Challenge Request’, and an email will be sent to the other team’s leader. This is an easy way for us to see if you’ve been actively scheduling the match.

Once you’ve agreed on a match date with your opponent, please enter it into the calendar [Link].

If a fixture date is not entered into the calendar by the Schedule deadline, we will appoint a default date. If one team does not respond to schedule requests, please make this known to us (preferably by making match comments). If you suggested a date, and the opponent didn’t respond, you will usually get the date you suggested as default date. The week 1 schedule deadline is the 10th of May.

Don’t forget to take the appropriate screenshots (1 for most maps, 2 for gravelpit (1 each round), and 1 status screenshot).

Player ban

Today we had to ban yet another player. Fallen from 40 Degrees has been banned for 1 year for speedhacking.

Soldier 1on1 cup start – Scout 2on2 cup round 4

Date April 25, 2009

Soldier 1on1 cup start

The signups are closed, we have reached the massive amount of  380 players. With a cup tree of 512 slots, this means we will have a lot of teams instantly going to round 2. The cup will have a strict schedule of 1 round per week. With the size of the cup we can allow no exceptions. If a match result isn’t submitted Sunday at 23:59 CEST, we will flip a coin to decide who goes to the next round.

Please check the cup tree to see your first match. For those who have to play a round 1 match:

  • Round 1 – match deadline: Sunday 3 May, 23:59 CEST

  • For every round: Both players should stand in front of their resupply door and jump 3 times to show that you’re ready. Only after both teams have jumped three times, you can begin shooting.
  • You cannot leave the arena once you’ve entered it. (except when your opponent is dead)
  • The winner receives € 50,-

Scout 2on2 cup round 4

It is time for round 4 already. 16 teams are left in this fight to find out who is the best scout duo. We’ve seen some big names go down already so this proves to be an interesting cup. Let’s hope it continues to be that way.

Season 5 news: provisional divisions, playoff, map pool and dates – another ban

Date April 24, 2009

Season 5: provisional divisions

With the signups  going so fast, we were able to start, and finish our provisional seedings well ahead of schedule. This is when you will find out in which division we have placed you. It is only a general indication, ranging from div 1 to 6, later on you will be split into groups of 10 teams. The seedings can be found here:

>>>[Season 5 provisional seedings]<<<

These seedings are not 100% set, you can’t claim anything based upon them, butwe’ve worked hard to make them as final as possible. If you think your team is misplaced, too high or too low, you can notify us of this. Wherever possible and reasonable, we will try to put you in another division. Generally, requests to play in a lower division will always be granted. If you want to notify us, please use the  following procedure:

Write an email to staff@etf2l.org with the following details:

  • Your team name
  • The division we seeded you in
  • The division you want to play in
  • Give us proof that you are capable of playing in the division you requested. This means: screenshots of matches where we can see you are capable of winning against teams from the division you want to play in. Official matches will be vastly more important than PCW’s. Please try to submit results from official matches as much as possible.
  • Anything else that you think might help.

Note: any appeals must be emailed before Sunday 26 April, 23:59 CEST to be considered.

Season 5: division 1 playoff

One of the teams that was heading for division 1 in season 5, Nervous.tf2, sadly dropped. This left us with a gap in that divisions. Two clear candidates have arisen who in our eyes can compete in division 1. These are Team YoYoTech and Level Up, containing a lot of previous Nervois.tf2 members. For them to decide which one can take the last division 1 spot, which can’t be gained without a fight, we will hold a playoff match between these two teams. This match will be held under the usual playof-conditions. Maps; cp_granary, cp_badlands (and cp_gravelpit as decider). Each map must have a winner. When tied, a golden cap will be played. We wish both teams the best of luck in this match. Hopefully we will be able to arrange some coverage, details will follow.

Season 5: map pool

The map pool votes have been closed. The majority has decided the following: cp_freight will be moved to the primary map pool (and changed to the final version, as opposed to the b3 version which we used in season 4), pl_badwater and ctf_well will be removed from the secondary map pool. They can only be chosen from the 3rd map pool now, and not directly. The season 5 map pool is the following:

Primary map pool (maps can be chosen 3x by each team):

  • cp_badlands
  • cp_granary
  • cp_well
  • cp_gravelpit
  • cp_fastlane
  • cp_freight
  • ctf_turbine

Secondary map pool (maps can be chose 1x by each team):

  • cp_dustbowl
  • cp_labor
  • ctf_2fort
  • ctf_mach4
  • pl_goldrush

Season 5: dates

With the sped-up sign ups, we have found room to speed up things with season 5 in general. This will move the season further away from the summer, which we hope is a good thing. We have moved everything 1 week forward. The new dates are the following:

  • Thursday 23rd april: publishing of provisional seedings
  • Sunday 26th april: final date to submit request to change division
  • Tuesday 28th april: publishment of final divisions, map picks open
  • Sunday 3rd may: map picks close
  • Monday 4th may: week 1 starts
  • Monday 11th may: week 2 starts
  • Sunday 17th may: week 1 match deadline
  • Monday 18th may: week 3 starts
  • Sunday 24th may: week 2 match deadline
  • etcetera.

Clanban

Sadly, some individuals has once again felt the urge to gamble and challenge faith by using unfair methods — “importing” a banned player under a new account. Previously banned cheater Berg decided to resurface as Prefect in the very same clan (Noreaction) as he previously played with. This fact could not have escaped the management of the Noreaction team, and we have thus decided to ban the entire clan from ETF2L Season 5. Yet again, we sincerely hope it’s the last ban we ever have to hand out.
