Yes, thats DirectX 8. If you haven't set it to run in directx 8, its probably because you have an older graphics card that can't run DirectX 9. But anyway, try this just to check. Go into steam, and your games list. Right click on Team Fortress 2, then click Properties. Go to "Set Launch Options" and type in this: -dxlevel 91 Then hit ok and try to load TF2. If it crashes or doesn't load, then sorry you have an older graphics card and the only thing you can do is buy a new one.
