I don't know if this is related, but I had a similar thing when I was playing on my laptop. Two things helped:
1. Better cooling. I used a fan stand for my laptop but idk, for a desktop you'd have to clean out dust/change placement/get a new cooler or something. When my laptop got hot these freezes happened more often, but cooling didn't stop it entirely.
2. CrystalDiskInfo. I've only found maybe one or two people that've had the same problem I had, but this program allows you to turn off Auto Power Management (APM) for your HDD, which stopped me getting the freezes almost entirely. Gotta do it every time you turn it on, though, unless you change the registries or something. I'm sure there's another way to turn it off, this was just the first one I found and only one I bothered using.

Hope this helps.

Thought It was my uni net causing constant crashes, but recently I'm getting mini-freezes where mumble doesn't freeze or stutter at all, inferring that it's purely TF2.

Cheers for any help.
