You should have mention it in the first place. If you used some BIOS option like "auto turbo overclock", then you did it wrong. Google "q8400 overclock", read at least 10 guides and you should be fine. And if you don't have a custom cooling system, better not to.

I followed a half decent guide that I found but it didn't really explain much in depth, it would be nice to really understand what each option change affects.

I have the same issue, holler if you figure something out.

Re-installed tf2 and got rid of a lot of crap on my HDD. Switched back to native resolution and went for highframes rather than maxframes

Basically cleaned up my whole PC, did windows updates, got a better anti virus that I will actually keep up-to-date (ESET), uninstalled games that were taking up shit loads of space. Tbh a reformat would be better but dont have time for the PC to be out of action for long due to uni work.

Finally I overclocked my CPU a bit (from 2.66 to 3.0Ghz) as I feel my CPU lets me down a lot in most games. Need to buy some more RAM but not much DDR2 available so might wait until I have enough money for a complete CPU+Mobo+RAM upgrade.

EDIT: Game is smooth now for me, but other people player models are really weird and jittery, also when speccing other players its jittery like fuck can barely see whats going on

Had a 120Hz monitor for well over a year now, mouse and mousepad are clean as fuck that has no relation to the problem at all anyway.

Hardware is all I can afford at the moment, not exactly rolling in money being a student. Thanks for the really helpful advie

Been finding TF2 annoying to play recently because even though I'm using the maxframes config, lowered my resolution (1366x768) and getting near to 150fps constant the game still feels horrible to play as if its not smooth at all.

I have a pretty beastly connection and can run at around 30ms ping on most servers with no choke or loss so I doubt its the connection that is the problem.

The thing is i've seen people playing with the same fps and getting a much smoother game, i cant understand what I'm doing wrong.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
ATI Radeon HD 6870
4GB RAM
120GB SSD

I know I need to upgrade the CPU and RAM eventually but literally have no money at the moment (nearly 1000 overdrawn).

If anyone can help me out it would be most appreciated.
