you can use this if you know what ticks you are gonna record. Basically making the play back very fast and getting the game to record when you reach the tick you know you want to record.
Skyride makes good tutorials on it.

for relevant section if you cba to watch all is 3:00 -->

Quoted from Jers1

Turn off multicore rendering.
It is off, see op.
Quoted from doks

if you wanna use the demoui first pause.. then go to the tick. shouldnt crash then -_-
After some trial and error it seems if I use the playdemo cmd in console, then open demoui & use its "Goto" function it works.
"playdemo demname; demo_gototick 1234" is dead regardless, I'm guessing it has smth to do with the replay thing since my rollback tf2 install still works =/

Thanks doks, I guess I'll just use that method for now.
edit: this can be locked btw

Sorry if this has been asked/answered before. I did search the forum (+google), and only found that addon by Casual which didn't help in my case. afk 8months+, came back, and now the command doesn't work in any of my demos, whether its a year old or an hour old.

side note: whenever I playdemo the 'replay' bg is always shown rather than the old 'loading map' bg, is this normal now or could it be the issue?

Information-
fresh tf2 install
mat_queue_mode -2
playing demo via console
no external programs used

Thanks for any help.
