Yeah that's what I did. That cable didn't manage to connect, but a cable from the router to my LAN port managed to connect. Which utterly bamboozles me, because one would assume that jacking in the cable straight from the modem would give full connectivity D: so that's the core of my problem, I have NO IDEA whether its the cable, router, LAN port or just plain fail luck :(

Edit: also tried switching ports, but problem persists. I am utterly befuddled. And it looks like if I am to confirm its anything but my LAN port, I'd have to ask my neighbour if I can share her internet cable for a few minutes D:

Your "distributor" is called a router. The cable should go from a LAN port (it probably says that somewhere) on your Router, to the port on your PC.

If one does work, and the other doesn't, just try switching around cables/LAN ports (A lot of routers have 4 or so) to see what it is that doesn't work, the router port or the cable. Then you'll know more.

Okay, first off, I live on a wireless connection through my house. Now, when gearing up for i42, I decided to test out my LAN port's functionality by using the ethernet cable which links my wireless modem.

Now, there's essentially 1 main cable linking the modem to the wireless distributor (or whatever you call it :P). From the "distributor", two cables lead out.

Now, one cable works, while one doesnt. WTF? is it my LAN port, my cable or the connection?
