fair do's.

well i suppose if there are no other options other than to use lobby, and both clans understand the risks, and both clans have tried to find a server and have consulted the league admins and absolutly must play the match that day... and it's like both clans are "we MUST play this game today or it's the end of the world for us both". Then maybe it'll be ok.

obviously seek admin advice before doing it though, as an admin will have more contacts and might be able to arrange a server for them to use.

also yeah agreed about the not exact config, though thats what i meant about extreme last resort :D. but even so, i guess the configs will be extremely similar, so long as the lobby is setup right. the lobbies are supposed to replicate a match situtation, so the config settings can't be far off from what they should be. so long as people make sure all their own players have joined and not randoms, and also make sure that no one is stupid enough to use the "report missing" or "sub needed" features, then all is good.

tbh, i wouldn't worry about it unless it does come down to the fact that the other team doesn't have access to a server, which is unlikely. Also it's not as though when match day comes, thats it's you got 15mins to find a server. Nope. You'll schedule the match with the other team days before the match, and during the time you schedule it, you can also sort out the server. eg, do they have one, and if not, can you find someone who does and pre-book it for use on the day you play.

As an extreme last resort. Get everyone to signup to TF Lobby, and make a lobby, getting all your players in their and the other team, kicking any randoms who join, and click start when everyone ready's up. It'll give you a server to play on. granted it does it one map at a time, but for the second map you just restart the lobby. If anything like golden cap comes into it, just do nother lobby just for that and keep an eye on the time limit :D

Nice idea with the lobby server, however does't have the official etf2l config....

I have servers. :P

Seriously though, I mean this as a general rule to all teams, but if you're planning to play more than a ladder game once in a blue moon, you should really have your own server. Pretty much every standard 6v6 team in TF2 has their own server, Its not really fair for ETF2L to bend over backwards to help out people who aren't really even that interested in playing.

Well no-one is pressuring you to buy a server...where does it say in the rules that a signed up team HAS to have a server? If both teams don't have a PLAYABLE server, you can ask an admin on #etf2l though their servers are limited. There are plenty of people who own/manage unused servers prolly willing to lend a hand (myself included if our server is free).

With that said, we got a server as well it makes finding games much easier and gives you somewhere to practise/mess around/go through strategy...etc

No I totally understand this, but there's 9 people in your team? A server by my pricing is £14.40/month for a highlander server, and similar-ish for other GSP's. So you only need each person in your team to donate £1.60/month each, and you have a server. If you seriously cannot afford £1.60/month, then I have no idea what on earth you are doing with a PC capable of running TF2.

Don't take this offensively, I'm just posting how I feel about the matter. Servers run on serious hardware sitting in datacentres, I know its really intangible but this stuff costs serious money.

I can definitely afford that much, but I never thought to ask my team to split the cost. of course, now that I think of it, I could never ask them. Most of them are high school students (as am I). I can't afford say, £15/month because I'm saving up for University, but 1.50 is a much more manageable payment. It's just, asking them would be just like... I dunno really. And I know Servers cost a lot of money, but I was just asking what to do in the case that neither team has a server, would one be provided, or would I have to ask around. That was really my question.
