I was told point-blank that they were manipulating the brackets to make sure that two specific teams would end up in the finals. These teams were more ‘television friendly’ and so they wanted them in the finals to make sure the show had the intensity and appeal they wanted

They manipulate the seedings, not lie about the results. A knockout competition will always find the most deserving first place winner, however the 2nd place winner isn’t necessarily the most deserving.
