Then i'd go for what johnny suggested with:
Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-AS
Or 2x Asus ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-219-AS ?
The clock speeds look similar so not sure why one is 2x as expensive?

Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case – Black £42.99

I would choose the cheapest Asus motherboard, since you dont plan on clocking.
I cant give you an full editorial of why the 5850 is twice as expensive. But it pretty much boils down to performance. It could be argued that the 2x5770 is a better bang for buck, I think in the long run it would be better to have the possibility to crossfire another 5850. The choke (not sure if this is the right term) on gamingrigs tend to be the gfx.

Are you settling with the AMD cpu now?

You might want to measure up the 5850 to be a 100% sure it fits in the antec. Antec should from what I hear be a good case choice, if a bit small.

This should last you 2-4 years(at least with another 5850), given that you dont expect to run Crysis 4 with a 100+ framerate.

I would go for something like this:

Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £240.99
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) £145.9
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK) £76.99
Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 AMD 770 Motherboard £60.98
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £42.99

Total :	£581.45

The alternative is to switch up the Phenom with an i5. It is a question of GFX vs CPU. Where you want to put your budget.

Have a look in this article, might give you some pointers:

You get 2 copies of Dirt 2 with that setup, which you can sell for ~55£ making the setup cost about 600 £.

I don't know about the graphics card, you could just as well choose an ATI 4890 (they are pretty much the same). However the 5770 has DX 11 support, which the 4-series doesn't have. And later on you could buy another 5770 / 4890 and crossfire them and improve the performance a lot. The i7 D0 overclocks really well, you could most likely get it to 4 ghz.

You might also need a 1/2 fans for the antec 300.

don't go with amd

intel i7> anything

Why go for a very expensive cpu (that will have no extra performance over a Phenom II/i5 when it comes to gaming) and pair it with a rather low end graphics card?
Yes, you get some extra frames from the cpu, but when you've got something like an i5, you're way beyond the point where a cpu would limit your performance.
The extra 10fps that i7 920 gives aren't worth such a shitload of extra money imo.

I wouldn't recommend s1366 to anyone unless they're very serious about graphics
work or modelling.

Rather spend the money on a better gpu, an SSD, or a really good monitor (as in not-some-rubbish-Samsung-TN-panel-monitor)

Actually i7 gives you the benefits of multi-gpu, being D0 stepping, and will also run i9 should it lower in price at the time you eventually want to upgrade again.
