I know that this is not the only mouse/driver to do this, but I changed it for testing purposes and i did not notice any kind of skip/bug/loss of accuracy from the optical. You can actually disable the windows accel by the driver menu. By the way, gibbz, I can choose between 1800dpi and 800dpi.
