If everyone's running windows I suggest you try a program named cFosspeed. It's not a bandwidth limiter, but rather a traffic shaper. In theory, it should let everyone download using the entire connection and let you game with, say, only 5-25 ping increase. Some people I know say it's the best thing since the internet, for others (myself included) it does absolutely nothing. Sure the worst you can do is try.

depends if they are pricks or not, if the 'net bill is split 7 ways they can hardly complain about being limited to one seventh of the bandwidth.

Hey guys,

I recently got a connection from BT saying that the speeds I'd roughly get would be around 8-10mbps. Doing a speedcheck I get around 5Mb out of a possible 6.5Mb.

This isn't the problem though. My ping is really easily affected even when the bandwith isn't exactly the lowest. As soon as I start just 1 download, my ping goes from 20-400. This wouldn't be a problem normally. But I live with 7 other people. At any one time, someone will be downloading something...

I was wondering if this is normal, or if there are any fixes ect. I'm used to a fairly decent connection with gaming packets prioritised.
