If you can, try before buying anything. Used to work perfectly for me (until I got fed up by the 85mbps and installed cables everywhere, yay 1gbps) but there are possible problems:
- With old electrical installations it might not work properly (even if I had no problem myself, but I've seen it (used to work in a computer shop or whatever that's called in english).
- In some houses, different floors might not be on the same "electrical network" (I don't know how that's called in english). This might prevent it to work at all.
- You should not use power strips. It completely fucks up the network (when I used one, I only got 1mbps, that's worse than wireless).

So if you can, try it before buying anything. If it works, it's a very good solution and way more reliable than wireless.

Be aware of the bandwith limitations: I never got the 85mbps I should have had (at first I didn't care), I think the best ones are supposed to be 200mbps, so if it's something you care about (basically if you need to transfer large files) you should check that out too.

£65 brand new last December from the local papers. Brand new, in box, never used. :D
Poor guy bought it from PC World for £150, then realised his PC didn't have a PCI-E slot.

But back on topic:
Personally I must admit im doubtful of these things. From what I know (being a bit of a network geek myself and my father being an ex-electrician) they seem to be pretty hit or miss.

My advice would be get it:
if it works, BRILLIANT
if its crap, take it back for a refund

I want to start being able to play tf2 in my room. It's quite far away form the router so wireless isn't really an option. Networking will be hard for the same reason and there's no carpets in the house to hide it. Networking it on the outside of the house is an option but there's the problem of getting it through walls. I was having a look at ethernet over power. It seems in theory to work quite well. I can't find any reviews of it in terms of gaming though.

Anyone have any experience with it?
