To be honest I would say not WoW. With Cataclysm theyve really outdone themselves. Ive never had so much fun just questing alone because there are alot of neat little popculture references (for example a quest where you have to escort a giant ogre pushing a minecart and he yells "WE MUST PUSH LEETLE CART" http://www.wowhead.com/quest=14310 ). You will get those references and little tributes to games and movies in almost every quest (one of the new zones for level 83-84 is basically a giant tribute to Indiana Jones, its awesome!). Plus there are alot of ingame cutscenes that keep you up to date with the story progression.

So with the latest expansion, WoW is defo the best MMO in terms of solocontent.

I couldn't disagree with you more.
In other MMOs you need to literally grind for dozens of hours until you can have any fun. (instances)
Guild Wars was fun right off the bat for me. You don't really need to grind at all.
I do agree that playing by yourself is pretty dull. (but then again aren't all MMORPGs?)

New players need to get their (elite) skills, which isn't too bad, but also the PvE-only skills because they're stupidly overpowered, which requires faction grinding (Sunspear, Kurz/Lux and EotN factions). You're probably looking at at least completing Nightfall and EotN before you can do much of anything with other people, unless you can find a guild who run through campaigns together. I also think it's necessary to equip/skill your heroes since nearly every party uses them these days (because heroes > randoms) except for end-game content (where PvE only skills make life much easier), and that takes a lot of time unless you buy the skill unlock packs.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, just think it's not easy to get into atm because there aren't many people out there doing the campaign content these days.

Buying skill unlock packs = huge help (because then you can learn anything from a skill tome and your heroes have access to every skill right off the bat)

Does guild wars have a monthly fee?

No, you pay for the game (and optionally its expansions) and that's it.

The main difference between GW and other MMOs is that guild wars focuses more on skill than on time and effort put in. The highest level a character can achieve is 20, and it's not even hard to get there. You can equip no more than 8 skills (spells, attacks, etc), which forces you to balance things out and play in groups because you can't equip 8 skills that will work in every situation.
