Cheers for all the replies guy, really appreciate it.

Initially I was going to go for the ec1 however after speaking to ziggy and seeing a test he did at i40 on it regarding the precision aspect of the mouse I realised that although it would be a brilliant mouse for cod / css its just not functional in tf2.

I have decided I'm just going to go with another 3.0 and take the inners out and change them over :) plus this option saves me 35 quid as I picked one up for 20 quid. (even though they are 12 quid on game but sold out!)

Cheers for all the help, especially for the link regarding dismantling it, although I might have to get the hammer out because the screws are pretty fucked!

May not be as easy. There is a fair chance that the switches have grinded as heavily into the case as it has into the switches, if not more. I opened up an old razer mouse with porly responsive keys. The switches were fine, but in the spots where they attached to to the buttons the plastic was heavily worn down. Makes you wonder if they use shit plastic on purpose just to sell new mice. Wore out in 1.5 years, as opposed to my IE3.0 that was used by me along with my brother and parents for 5 years before it's buttons finally gave in.

Dimensions:

MS 3.0: 132 x 43 x 69 mm
EC1: 128 x 43 x 70 mm
DA: 128 x 42.5 x 70 mm
EC2: 120 x 40 x 65 mm

As far as I can tell the EC1 is essentially just MX518 optics in a DA shell with minor differences in shape and finish.

Downside is the pretty severe prediction you get with that sensor but as I mentioned previously it shouldn't be a big issue provided that you are using a low sensitivity (e.g. 30cm/360 or more)

Besides the prediction the MX518 optics are basically on par with the original DA for providing unwaveringly accurate tracking at any realisticly useable mouse movement speed on the vast majority of mouse mats.

Some users have reported problems with the scrollwheel on the EC1. Ask nVc for some more info as he's tested the mouse himself, or alternatively Fragga if you can get hold of him, I know he uses either the EC1 or the EC2.

Added to that is some scrollwheel bug some other users have been reporting. Ask nVc or Fragga if you can get hold of them for more details as I know nVc has tested both the EC1 and EC2 and Fragga uses one of them.

Cheers for all the nice replies guys, for some reason I'm drawn to the ec1 however I am skeptical regarding its size. How small is it???

I would resolder as I tried to get into the bottom of the mouse yesterday however the screws wouldn't turn for the love of god and are pretty rounded now :S so thats out the question.

How are the current IE3.0s not smooth? I have one right beside me at this very moment and I would describe it as such. It's not as sturdy as the WMO or IM1.1 or the previous version, but should be able to handle a beating. The WMO is bloody immortal, you can do anything to that mouse.

Zowie make a glossy coated version of the IM1.1 that fits your description. http://www.gamegear.be/popup_image.php?pID=1625&osCsid=3umir07c674t726le1hhvl6lv6 I personally don't like the shape, the right indentation and the leaning edges makes it a bit hard to lift.

Another option would be to buy a mouse of your liking, and take the top parts to an auto workshop to have it coated. I've seen it done with cellphone shells with good result. Replacement feet can be bought from various places if you mess up any while disassembling the mouse.
