Early days for NS2 commentary, in fact I don't recall any NS commentary EVER being done. Good foundation of things to come in that game.

There was a fair few NS casts back in the day, but I can't for the life of me remember who were the big name casters?

This video is the first time I've seen anything about Natural selection, it looks like an awesome game; I'm definitely pre-ordering it asap.

I wouldn't mind trying the original mod, do you need to have HL bought or is it like TFC where steam just pre-loads it?

You need HL1 I think.
Check out http://www.ensl.org for the remnants of the NS1 competitive scene.
You'll want to download the nineLegends customisation pack too, cos default setup is so horrible :D

The learning curve is steep, but it is easily my favourite online game of all time.

I tested briefly the new D179 build last night. They had adder bigger tick rate to servers and server side improvements in general. Now the game is playable, not super smooth what you could a finished product to be, but it is definitely playable. You can actually hit stuff now without just spraying and praying (or jumping and biting randomly).

I also checked the dual view D179 videos from the Australian dude what I suggest you interested guys do as well. Game is clearly still quite unfinished, but what I was most happy about was that now game is way smoother and it's playable for the first time. Lag so far has been insanely annoying. Will have to play it a bit now if I can find time.
