maybe you should adapt this policy for etf2l :)

That's not the argument as such though. If a player was vac banned 6 months ago, and the admins knew about him being vac banned 6 months ago, why wasn't he banned at that time? Why is he banned 6 months later when he should have been banned 6 months earlier with the punishment ending 6 months earlier. Not only that but if this player was banned 6 months earlier (when he was vac banned and people knew about it), he would only have a 1 year ban (before the new rules), and would only have 6 months left on it. Ban him 6 months later, and he gets another year added on (new rules) as well as having to serve the full year to the date he was banned.

In short: (an example)

Offense: (VAC ban dated 13/05/2009, everyone is aware of the vac ban)

- If player was banned on 13/05/2009 (The date he was vac banned), ban expires 13/05/2010 (+6 months from today's date).

- If player is banned on 13/11/2009(current date), ban expires 13/11/2011 (+24 months from today's date).

That's a huge difference there....

Side note. ETF2L are making a mistake with 2 year bans anyway. A 1 year ban can be easily outlived. Players can stick around for a year and then enter again in the competition legit. A 2 year ban is too long, players will just make a new identity and the admin team will have to devote even more of their time to finding out who they are. When they make a new identity, there is a high chance they will cheat with it as well and the player can't be monitored.

If a a player was VAC banned 2 years ago they would not have been able to play in the league servers. If they had made a new account and continued to play in the league, how does that count as 4 years of punishment if we ban them for 2 years from now?

That's like saying if we found out by demo evidence that someone had been cheating in an ETF2L match 6 months ago, they should only be banned for 1 and a half years instead of 2 because it was 6 months ago when they cheated.

Regarding VAC-Ban

Important:

All VAC bans are permanent - Valve has a zero-tolerance policy for cheating and will not lift VAC bans under any circumstances.

Quoted from the steam support page https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7849-RADZ-6869

Yes, that what the support page says, but it has happened that support have removed bans in the past.

http://vacbanned.com/?m=2&p=39&view=All
http://vacbanned.com/?m=2&p=40&view=All

That's page 39 and 40. Most of those accounts were created after 2005 (so bans were permanent), and as you can see they have been unbanned. I have talked to some of those guys and they told me that their account got hijacked + VAC banned, they contacted support and the ban got removed at the same time as their account was given back.

(NOTE : A lot of the accounts on page 39 and 40 are Cafe accounts (160 games), those can get banned and unbanned all the time if they want, but I am talking about normal steam accounts, and there are a few on those 2 pages)

Payard and Heliana are banned for cheating on (be careful) TF2 (like in E-TF2-L) and therefore are banned right after that for 1 year.
Other players are banned for cheating on (here is the difference) Source (like in ... Source, who cares ?) and therefore are banned 1 year (or more) after their VAC-Ban.

You don't know when the VAC-Ban occured, if it occured 2 years ago, why would they be punished 4 years (2+2) when Payard or Heliana are punished 1 years. I personaly don't care about the 1year/2years, you can change the rules, it is really not the point here.

The point is : if Payard and Heliana have understood the lesson in 1 year, why would VAC2-banned people need AT LEAST 2 (depending on the day they got their VAC ban) ? And if you trust people that cheated on your game 1 year ago, why would'nt you trust people that cheated on other games long time ago ?

ETF2L can have only 2 ways of dealing with cheaters:
1) No cheaters. At all. So you ban every VAC1 and VAC2 bans (cheating is cheating), you ban Payard/Heliana/etc, you ban people that cheated on Duke Nukem 3D.. and keep them ban till 2192.
2) Cheating is bad. So you ban everyone you catch cheating on TF2, maybe you can add specific surveillance on the VAC-banned people, like asking them to record EVERY game they play.

The third option which bans some people randomly and keeps other safe is really not good.

know what your talkin bout, its commonly known that after an account has been VAC banned, valve is just unable to unban it, just because they CAN'T.

I don't see why the admins wouldn't be willing to at least look at the community(-voice) instead of their own world.
It's a downgrade for the league :(
