It's personal choice whether a player from NI identifies as Irish, British or Northern Irish. Though NI isn't part of GB, hence the UK is "The UK of GB and NI". After talking with Bulow and Admirable, it was decided that we'd have all-Ireland teams for the Nations cups, similar to how many sports have all-Ireland teams. Plus, Ireland has fuck all people who play TF2 so it made sense practically. It's complicated. Most Catholic people are much more sympathetic to the Republic of Ireland whereas Protestants are alligned more with the UK. This is not a universal rule but even now there are giant fences seperating Protestant and Catholic areas of Belfast and curfews in some areas. Not to mention a huge security presence at pro-catholic/pro-protestant events in the city. Although the main fighting in the country ended with the Good Friday agreement back in the 90s there are still riots, the most recent of which was this year and it was over the flying of the Union flag above the Belfast town hall.
