Why can't we just use GMT - rather than taking a time, then adding a time to that to get another time which isn't as good as the real time which is GMT because all the other times are just + or - the real time, therefore obviously are not the real time and therefore we should just use the real time, it's like taking a tomato and injecting it with vodka and calling it a tomato, its not really a tomato its a tomato injected with vodka so it would just you drunk, unlike the real time which doesnt so it's obviously inferior to the GMT which is in actual fact the real time. I tend to think of it as an octopus + a fried egg does not give you a rock, because an egg is an egg and a octopus is a octopus but you have to consider that an egg is not a fried egg. If you look at it this way you can understand why GMT is obviously the suprior time and why we shouldn't have GMT +1 or GMT +2 or GMT +3 and so on, also daylight savings is stupid init.

as a UK guy, why do you care? iirc you are always 1h "behind" the rest of Europe, so you don't need to think further than that.
