I couldn't honestly tell you how to have it such that it DEFINATELY is off when games are running. To be fair though, if you're not getting random FPS drops at times, then I doubt its on. As unreliable as that seems, think about it, even if it IS on but you're not getting FPS drops, is it a problem for it to be on?

Personally I don't know a huge amount about it as given my experience with it in Vista, it was just constantly slowing down my PC all the bloody time so I just turned it off and forgot about it.

Look at the HDD light on your PC, if its solid or flashing a lot while in-game (other than when you're loading or changing map) then its probably that, and even if its not we've got some idea what the problem is.

Also Focuz, I use -noborder and it makes a slight difference, although either way i get 60fps+ with PldX config. :)

Driver updates make a hell of a big difference as well.

I'm running windows 7 x64 with a frame rate never dropping below 80FPs @1440*900 all details set to max inc 8X AA (and i only got a Phenom II 955 & a Radeon 4770 512MB)

The problems experienced by the OP are not likely to be caused by Windows 7, it is more likely caused by a 3rd party application/virus etc, a broken component, or a poorly configured PC.
