There's no need imo. Just let the mentor play for one match. I trialed for one ~div5 team and when the mentor played with us (he was making all the calls) we won versus a div3 team o_O

I think it takes some skill out of 6v6, calling is part of the game, organization of the team is also difficult part. This would mainly just give an advantage to teams who can't organize themselves during a game, and a disadvantage to teams who can because they don't gain much from it.

I don't think that skill of the players or class composition of the team should be the only thing that lets you win a 6v6 match.

Also people sometimes miss enemies on their own screens due to being distracted, where as a 'manager' would most likely pick up on this and be able to say there is a scout behind or whatever.

It's always a touchy subject but what's more important is that it allows for closer games and aids in the closing of the skill gap between the lower and upper tiers - something which should be taken above that of just raw skill, especially in tf2 where i'm sure you'll agree.

A much better and productive way would be to have a programme where you can all watch a sourcetv demo together with a higher skilled player as the director showing all the players watching the demo the same thing. You seem to have completely missed the point and so has the OP.

The real term for what has been suggested is "coach", it is designed in quake 3 so that a coach times the powerups whilst the players focus on killing things, in effect it is a 5th or 6th player in a 4v4/5v5 match up respectively, it ensures both teams, if they have a good manager, play to the best of their ability and all attack the powerups at the same time. It is in no way designed as a mentor for lower skilled teams, nor does it bring any notable skill advantages, it is simply there to use if you need it.

Coaches could write /multipov and view all of their own teams screens on their own screen broken up into the amount of players on their own team (usually 4 or 5). They could also write /follow fc and /follow pu to follow the flag carrier and powerup carriers when those items we're taken.

Nice feature, i'd like to see it released for the sake of doing so, but i honestly don't think it will work as intended in a game like TF2.. there is nothing for them to do except call strats, and anybody can do that.

i.e. As initially mentioned, it will bring no real advantage to the teams already able to call strats and so i support it, if anyone wants to be a big fat crybaby, limit coach in league games to someone in their own clan, which could work, or a better idea would be for them to be anyone of the same division and below, as it works in quake.

In the end, if the players don't try make the calls themselves and make the mistakes they need to make to learn from, they won't advance half as much. The way the mentor project has been going is a way of helping players do it themselves, realise when and what to do etc. because the mentor isn't going to be there forever. I kinda feel this works as a "temporary fix" to people, but in the long run, it wouldn't really benefit us as much as without?
