cough, not true about lagcompensation, cough....

... but that's another, longer, story.

I had different problems in Vista64/Vista32 (and XP is just horrible to begin with nowadays, let's not even go there with the totally insane wireless-services causing never ending streams of headaches, even if you don't use it) regarding FPS-drops, after getting it somewhat working in Vista32, it returned after just a few weeks with mumble going haywire as well. I had both NV8800GT and ATI4870x2 during the Vista32/64 and XP experience, it was the same hassle with both. I got fed up with it and installed W7-64 on a different partition some 6-8 weeks ago (or whenever 7068 was released), not had a _single problem_ since. I'm never going back to the crap that was Vista/XP.

Ever.

You don't know how much shit you're putting up with until the burden is gone.

Run it in windowed mode with task manager up. Then once you get the drop, see if there's a spike in activity either for the CPU or ram under 'performance' in task manager. If that's the case, you need to identify what does, which is most likely a third-party application in that case. If not, you know it's tf-related. Post back afterwards, 'cause at least then you can eliminate one of the two.

I can say now that if it's tf2-related it's likely it has to do with the temperature, so check that. If it's high, turn off the computer and clean it for dust.

But, yeah, do the first thing I said and then post back.
