If deleting clientregistry.blob doesn't fix it, don't reinstall Steam, but try:

1) Go in your steam directory
2) Delete every file except steam.exe and the steamapps/ folder.
3) Launch Steam, it'll redownload all of the correct files.

If that doesn't work, go to steamapps and try deleting platform.gcf and winui.gcf.

If that doesn't work, I don't know :P

Whenever I try to load the server list my computer locks up and the sound starts looping. This happens in Steam as well as in the game. I can load favorites or history up fine, but the internet list just instantly locks my computer up.

I get no error message and there is no log to be found anywhere. Sometimes it does work though, around one out of the ten to twenty tries seems to work and the only way it does work is if I have been playing on a server for a while.

The game runs fine, it's only the retrieving server list that crashes my computer. I can play hours on one end without a crash when I am in the server. I am running vista ultimate 64 bit. No hardware errors whatsoever, so it is not hardware related. I believe it is steam related as I can retrieve server lists of other games like call of duty 4 no problem.

Thanks in advance
