Why is it called 'endif' anyway?

I think it's meant as a reference to programming, kinda like 'end if(miss)'. I once saw a vid of the original endif where some guy got airshot over 20 times in a row, so it seems the element of the map which is considered lame nowadays has once been the only reason why people even played the map in Quakeworld :D

I don't think you understood the situation being described.

You are on spire, maybe you have capped or are capping it, when someone jumps at you. You then jump directly upwards, so the guy can't get splash damage on you from the floor. In MGE this works because once you get the kill you gain full health instantly. In a game situation this is retarded because you just lose a lot of health and aren't guaranteed the kill anyway. Chances are a scout or demo will just spam you a little and you'll die, even if you get the kill or the point.

Though as you said, you don't play soldier so perhaps you shouldn't comment on soldier play? :)
Notice how what I said was just suggestions. I never specified anything purely because I'm not trying to say it's a good idea, but rather trying to get a point across. I just think that even if it is gay, you shouldn't really get mad because like BonkerS said before you can counter it and it isn't impossible to learn from the situation.

tl;dr: Stop whining and beat them, and if you don't beat them, who cares? Your aim is better for it anyway.
