why don't you just put into launch options -windowed -noborder and thats it? u can alt tab all the time, and there won't be a feeling that you are playin on windowed.

If the crash would be related to page pool memory, he would see a big red warning in the top left corner of TF2 saying that he's out of page pool memory, a while before it crashes.
