There are at most 10 weeks until the start of Season 10. There are plenty of ideas for cups, but we won't have time to run them all as well as concluding S9, preliminary S10 work and whatever comes up in between.

If you have an idea for a cup that you think we aren't going to run (btw, asking us (me) on IRC is a quicker way of finding out), I strongly recommend running it yourself on something like ESH. Looking at the ESH cup history there are hundreds of user-ran cups for COD4 in particular, so it can't be that difficult to do. Myself, Deneusbeer and the Ultiduo admins all have experience of the site if something flummoxes you. If it's really needed I can put together a tutorial on making cups on ESH.

Sponsor tournaments on ESH seem to have ran a little dry for TF2 at the moment (even the TT eSPORTS one was independent). A trickle of smaller cups ran by the community, for the community would show the management that we're still around and eager to see more big things from ESH.

I was thinking that it would be fun to play and watch a experimental cup that would have all restrictions off. So teams can have as many demomen, heavies or unlock madness they can think of.

It should be quite refreshing really because teams wouldn't have thought like this before and won't really know what works well and what doesn't so there's no risk of the same strategies. Plus aren't you curious whether a team of demoknights can beat a team of gunslinger engys :D

Could call it something like the 'good-examples-on-why-we-don't-allow-some-of-these things...' cup

Was planning on hosting something similar in the next few months, but I'd much rather someone else (like ETF2L) do it.

Figured while there is all this negativity surrounding the unlocks, it would still be fun as hell to compete / watch games where every unlock can be used, regardless of 'imbalances', and just see what winning combination ultimately wins the cup.

Class limits would need to stand, might even be worth setting scout limit 2, soldier limit 2, everything else set to 1.

The best thing about the cup would be that the people who don't want to play with unlocks, simply do not need to enter. That leaves us with a cup of teams that want to enjoy it, and hopefully there will be less complaining.
Everything sounds nice!
But as someone else said, maybe even banning the regular weapons would make it more "YOU HAVE TO COME UP WITH A WINNING COMBO"

ETF2L please?

would be interesting to see. acid has some good points, but if you restricted every standard 6v6 weapon except the medic ones?

so that it is a Pure unlocks cup.

i dont know if having same classes is even necessary, i mean if you want to test the largest amount of unlocks possible, then setting the class limit to one could do that for you. Or alternatively you could do it so that both of the soldiers need completely different setups and both of the scouts need completely different setups.

sounds quite cool though, would make a change :D

Oh and I imagine some teams will just use a default setup, with anything else that is a straight up upgrade to their class (equaliser etc..), but the default setup isn't what it is for no reason. It's generally considered the strongest setup for a typical 6v6 game, and it is the best setup on average over all maps.

However, start to throw in some Milkman set scouts, Direct hit, Heavy with gloves of steel, whipping stick etc... and your opponent would probably need to mix a few things up themselves.
