Okay, for some reason my connection ingame drops to absolute shit whenever I join a server, especially if it's filled with players; it seems to get worse if I get closer to other players, and I have no clue why or how to fix this. An example:

I'm playing sniper in a lobby. Sniping from the main spawn. My ping will be doing ok for the first 10-15 secs, and then my ms will start jumping ridiculously from 40-60 to 350-600.

I've had this problem before and it fixed itself shortly after, but this time it won't. Another note: no other program but steam (hl2.exe) is running, and I have a somewhat ok internet connection. (10-12 MB/download).

Any ideas what could be causing this? As it's really taking the fun out of the game :(

Note: my router is a Zyxel PRESTIGE 2601HN-F1 model.
