wow, ammont of bs going strong... there is no need to delete any .gcf files, you can recheck them in steam "verify game integrity" which will redownload any individual files inside those .gcf if they are not to spec... deleting them and downloading again is massive waste of time and bandwidth

1. Delete all TF2 and Orange Box .gcf-files located in ../steam/steamapps/
2. Delete the entire Team fortress 2 folder (../steam/steamapps//team fortress 2/)
3. Redownload TF2
4. Put -autoconfig in launch options (and remove any other launch options)
5. Remove -autoconfig after launching the game once

But don't do that. Everyone gets a bunch of error messages every time they start the game. It's not harmful or anything like that. And no, it's not from some old config, everyone gets that.

Quoted from trams

Things done:
Format drive
Installed OS
Downloaded steam
Turned off steamcloud sync
Installed TF2
Deleted cfg:s in C:Program/Steam/steamapps/user/team fortress 2/tf/cfg
Deleted remote/remotecache in C:Program/Steamuserdata/(number)/440
Start with -autoconfig

But there is still some weird things in the console:
Can't use cheat cvar fog_start in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.
Can't use cheat cvar fog_end in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.
Can't use cheat cvar fog_startskybox in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.
Can't use cheat cvar fog_endskybox in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.
Can't use cheat cvar r_farz in multiplayer, unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.

Is this from some old cfg? and where do I delete it?

you cant use these commands. only if its sv_cheats 1 in the server
