I don't think his issue directly relates to the issue on that forum. The error he is getting relates to the kernel in the driver itself, which usually relates to a hardware error. But yes, seeing as he only gets this error in TF2, it might be within that scope.

But as always when you have these issues, you should keep all your drivers up to date. Not only your graphic card. Especially chipset drivers and sounds drivers are important too. If you use RAID, you should definitely keep your storage drivers up to date also.

Last but not least, always make sure you have the latest DirectX setups installed. You can download the websetup from here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 it will make sure you have all revisions of DX installed.

today it finally crashed again.... so the tdr fix isn't working for me either, i will install all my drivers and update them tomorow, i hope it works, because i really don't want to play at dxlevel 81 did that shit for years now, i finally have a pc that can handle the game at its fullest, otherwise i'm just gonna buy a ati card. (if i have the money for it :/ )

200c for 9-10 mins, take all that you can remove off the card.

Heatsink + Fan.

***WARNING***
Also put the card in chip face up, dont put it face down.
on the high power gpu's ur chip can drop off. ;) but 9800 should't matter, just face chip face up.

This is a known bug in TF2 with Nvidia DX10 graphic cards.
There is a huge thread on the steam forums about it and there is no working fix for this issue. I hope among many others that Nvidia or Valve will fix it soon. as far as i read on other forums this is a problem with the TDR protocol (timeout detection and recovery)

i found on the same steam forum thread that you linked a possible solution, i just did this http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1774666&page=2 and i hope it will work, i will keep you guys posted if my game will crash again

Hello good sir

Do you play any other games? If so; does these intermittent crashes occur as well in other games? usually when you get these errors they are power related I'm afraid, but if you only get them in TF2, then I don't think it's hardware related at all :)

it only happens in tf2, other games are fine, i have read in other forums were they say its hardware related, but tbh that just doesnt make sense since it only happens in tf2 and it only happens since i installed win 7
